It’s fair to say that I am not an organised person when it comes to household tasks. Things like remembering to put the dishwasher on, or cleaning rooms on set days aren’t my strong point. And when it comes to laundry I like to completely forget to do any until we’re almost completely out of clothes!
I need a laundry detergent that cleans well, cleans at low temperature, is kind to skin and smells lovely – not a lot to ask, I know!
When BritMums got in touch and asked if we’d like to try out Ecover’s new Non-Bio Concentrated Laundry Detergent as part of their #EcoverLaundry Challenge, I was game to try something new. Not to mention we also got this lovely washing bag designed by illustrator Freya Morgan!
While we’re way past the newborn baby skin phase, X and I both have quite sensitive skin, so my main priority when buying washing liquid is to find something that wont irritate us – after all, we spend most of our time wrapped up in clothes and bedding that has been washed, so that detergent needs to be nice to us! Ecover’s Non-Bio is made from plant made ingredients, and is dermatologically tested, so not only is it is kind to your skin, but kind to the environment too! This new formula is tougher on stains, even on a cold wash, apparently!
Ecover have been pioneering a greener way of washing since 1979, and is now Mumsnet rated, with 89% of raters saying they would recommend it to a friend.
My favourite thing about freshly clean clothes is the smell – and I’ll be honest, I wasn’t too taken with the initial scent of this concentrated Non-Bio as I put it in the machine. I’m a fan of Lavender, but not so keen on Sandalwood. However, once the wash was complete, the fragrance is mild enough to be pleasant, and certainly not overpowering like some other brands.
Neither X nor I have had any sort of reaction, which is great news!
My mixed bags of washing, hastily thrown into the machine the night before the clothes are needed, have all come out brilliantly clean – it’s even managed to get off a few paint stains that I thought were well and truly ground in! Not only that, but my dressing gown came out super soft and snuggly without any fabric softner (and who doesn’t love a soft and snuggly dressing gown!?)
I think I might be a convert – it’s great that it’s kind to our skin, plus Ecover don’t test on animals and work hard to ensure their products are as gentle to the environment as they are to your clothes.
