All About Me – Blogtober17 Day 1

So I’ve decided to give #blogtober17 (as run by the lovely Hex Mum) a go this year – and while I’m notoriously bad at keeping up with these, I’m going to try my hardest!!

Day 1 is All About Me

I’ve done a few of these posts in the past, so if you fancy being really nosey you can check those out here and here. I’ll try to give you all some interesting bits of information though…

my slightly confused face and fairly new purple hair

I’m Rebecca, but generally I get called Becki or Bex/Becks, or by one person in particular – Parso. I’m 31 and I’m originally from Birmingham in the West Midlands, but now I live with my Husband and son in Northampton.

While I was pregnant with my now 3 and a half year old son X, I delved into my family history – I knew I wasn’t 100% Brummie, but I’m amazed to have found out just how far my ancestors were spread out. My Nan had Dutch family, but grew up in London, and her father’s family came from Bristol (and Wales I assume somewhere from the surname, but I’ve not managed to get that far yet!). Half of my Granddad’s family are Irish, and I even have some relatives from Bedfordshire who got told off for not curtsying to Queen Victoria!

Talking of Queen Victoria, I’m taking to the stage this November and December to play her in Blackadder’s Christmas Carol. I love being on stage, which considering I’m painfully shy in real life comes as quite a shock to a lot of people. I studied Performing Arts at college, but then chickened out of taking it any further. My dream job would be working in theatre, but probably more to do with the marketing side than people paying to see my bad acting!

I have a younger brother and sister, both of whom are still in Brum so I don’t get to see much of them these days 🙁 My parents are divorced, and both remarried, so X has lots of Grandparents! I went to an all girls’ grammar school, which meant my co-ed 6th form college was a bit of an eye opener! Then I studied for a few years at the University of Birmingham (although I never finished my degree…)

I’m married to the lovely Hubby – we’ve been together just over 10 years now, and married for 3. We got married on a Friday 13th while I was 7 months pregnant, so it was far from the white wedding so many dream of! We’d been engaged for a few years, so it wasn’t a shotgun wedding! Although we did decide that, chances were, once the baby came along we wouldn’t be able to afford, or find the time, to get married, and I really wanted to have all of us with the same surname. So one wet and cold Friday 13th in December we rocked up to Birmingham Registry Office in the only dress that still fit over my bump, got married, then went to the pub for lunch. It was an ace day, and cost us next to nothing!

I discovered last week that I don’t actually need as strong a pair of glasses as I thought! As a kid I was under the eye hospital as I was very long sighted and had a squint – my right eye wanders in by itself – and I wore glasses daily until I was about 15 when I decided I looked better without them… I’ve worn reading glasses recently due to headaches, and my optician says that’s about all I need these days! Whoop whoop!

And lastly, I’m addicted to my phone. It’s appalling the amount of time I spend on it – either on Social Media, or playing games, or designing little graphics for things. I thought having my notifications come up on my watch might make me put it down more, but nope! It goes with me everywhere! One day I’ll break free. I hope…

So that’s all about me 🙂 Check back tomorrow for the next instalment of #blogtober17 – which is all about Babies…

  1. Great post, I really enjoyed it. I am addicted to my phone too so you are not alone, I think all us bloggers are though haha. I’d absolutely love to delve into my family history, how do you get started with something like that, any tips?! I love your little wedding story too, we did our wedding laid back and cheap too and I still loved it, just saying our vows was enough for me 🙂 #Blogtober17 x

    1. We did it all through Ancestry, and a great site called Wiki Tree. You just have to make sure to not get too carried away as it’s so easy to make mistakes! I’ve had to delete whole sections of the tree because I got the wrong person somewhere along the lines 🙁 It’s so interesting though!

  2. Family history is so eye opening isn’t it! My mum has tracked her side of the family quite far back and loves to tell me her latest discovery! I too am giving this blogtober17 a try! Never done it beofre!

  3. Welcome to #Blogtober17, my mother in law is heavily in to family history, she has just started trying to trace my side of the family, but my nan is german and her grandparents were polish, so it could take her quite a while! My eldest daughter sounds just like you, extremely quiet, until she gets on the stage, she has just started a degree in production design for stage and screen and is loving it. I can’t wait to find out more about you and your family during October.
