A few weeks back, we were sent an email with the exciting news that a brand new Turtle Bay was opening here in Northampton, and inviting us along to a VIP Preview evening to sample their famous cocktails and Jerk Chicken!
Back in Birmingham, I used to work very near the Turtle Bay restaurant they opened on John Bright Street, but never found the time to go in – but it always smelled so good each time I walked past.
We were treated to a fab, fruity Rum cocktail when we arrived, a special Northampton Saints themed number by Bar Trainer Sam – it was delicious, and each sip tasted slightly different! I hope I’ll be able to order that one again next time we go back.
Then it was time to try out the food – the friendly staff were walking around with some finger food while the team told us all a bit about Turtle Bay’s history, and the £800,000 renovation. The chicken wings and “Ladies Fingers” (a battered Okra) were some of the nicest things I’ve ever tasted!

We took our seats, then sampled a vegan curry – the Ital Rundown (even my husband enjoyed it, which is saying something as he’s not one for vegetables!) and the Curried Goat (which was very hot!) The menu is full of vegetarian, vegan and gluten free meals, so there’s really something for everyone.
I’m not a big drinker, so I had a few of their “Caribbean Softs” – the Pineappleade is really yummy and refreshing, and comes in a cute bottle!
It wasn’t long before they were bringing out whole jerk marinated chickens for us to try with their different types of jerk sauce and slaw.
Then, to top off a great night, they brought out the desert – those chocolate brownies were amazing!
The whole place had a really great atmosphere (although it was pretty loud with all of us chatting away), and the decor was absolutely stunning – from the beautiful fairy lights in the windows, to the neon signs and amazing artwork on the walls. The staff were really friendly and attentive, and knowledgeable about the food and drinks too. I definitely will be coming back once it opens!
Turtle Bay opens to the public on the 24th of September 2017, and is located at 2-6 Gold Street, NN1 1RS in the town centre.
