Learning Online with NCC

Since I had X, every chance I’ve had I’ve managed to sneak in a bit of learning online. A few weeks back, the lovely people over at NCC Home Learning got in touch and asked if I’d like to enrol on one of their distance learning courses, so obviously I jumped at the chance!

So I’ve joined their Creative Writing Diploma course https://www.ncchomelearning.co.uk/creative-writing-diploma.html

This a 12 month/200 hour course for which you are awarded a certificate upon completion by awarding body NCFE

Since I joined our local Am Dram group, I’ve been inspired to write something other than this blog, but often find myself struggling – I have the urge to write but not always the knowledge or skill to back it up.

The NCC Creative Writing Course has 14 modules covering all aspects of creative writing, including short stories, writing for radio, and the module I’m most looking forward to – Scriptwriting.

I really enjoyed the very first module, which examines the different reasons why people write and attempts to identify the reason why YOU want to write. So far it’s really helping me to focus my otherwise broad idea of writing into something narrow enough to concentrate on. I’m most of the way through the second module now, which covers the different genres and types of text, and critical analysis.

The modules themselves are easy to read and understand, and there’s a helpful element of testing your knowledge as you’re going along. With internet and distance learning I love the way you can dip in and out as you have the time – as a parent it’s tricky to find the time to dedicate to something like this, but it’s easy enough to pick up and put down without losing your way.

I’m enjoying it so far, and I’m looking forward to improving my creative writing skills as the course goes on.

Disclaimer: NCC have kindly allowed me to enrol on their Creative Writing course in return for my honest review here at The Mum From Brum. The course cost is normally £408.00 to study online, but is currently at the amazing price of £250.00!

Keep an eye out for my thoughts as the course progresses.

  1. Online learning is not a new concept but far too often, especially in developing nations, I come across a reluctance towards it, like there is some mistrust, like it is somehow not of sufficient quality and is very easy to pass. I can tell you, most of our online students would disagree and say that studying online is hard! It requires a lot of self-motivation, drive and perseverance. The results, however, can be rewarding and even advantageous.
