All The Things You Don’t Know About Me

You all know I love a quiz, especially if it means I get to talk about myself! So when the lovely Nicola over at A Mum Reviews kindly tagged me in this new tag from Shank You Very Much I was made up!

Shank You Very Much

A is for Am Dram

Yup, shy me, crippled with social anxiety and an utter lack of self confidence is going to be on stage with the Duston Players in May.

B is for Bugs

I hate bugs. And creepy things like bugs. But especially flying bugs – bees and wasps terrify me.

C is for Carrot Cake

My favourite food. Given the chance, I would probably eat them until I turned orange from all the carotin.

D is for Dyed

As in my hair – it’s been a very long time since it was it’s natural colour! It is currently red, but in the past it’s been purple, black, chocolate brown, black and red, and I even had blonde highlights once! I’m enjoying the red, although it needs dying pretty often – I might try and get it even redder!

E is for Exercise

Or probably more accurately, a lack of. I have done Parkruns, and I try to get my work out DVD done as often as I can but I really hate breaking a sweat.

F is for FRIENDS

I was OBSESSED with the tv series Friends for years – I loved Chandler more than was appropriate…

G is for Gallbladder

Back in 2008 I started getting back pain. I had no idea what it was, until I ended up in A&E in agony in August, and it turned out I had gallstones. I actually had a gallstone, but the bugger had got stuck in my bile duct and my gallbladder had become infected and filled with pus (tmi??). Damn thing tried to kill me, but the lovely doctors whipped it out and other than years of digestive issues, I feel much better…

H is for History

I love researching my family history – in parts I’ve got back to the 1600s… and they’re still Brummies, ha! No one rich or famous yet though 🙁

I is for Inability to Drive

Yup. It’s true. 30 years old and I don’t have a driving license. I’ve had lessons, but it terrifies me.

J is for Jokes

I like bad jokes – my personal favourite joke is “Why are pirates called pirates? Because they aaarrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!”

K is for Knees

Both of them are dodgy. And their stories of how they became dodgy are quite different. Righty, I hurt skiing in Austria when I was 12 on a school trip. I twisted to go down a slope, my ski got stuck but the rest of me kept going. It’s never been right since. I had to be stretchered down the mountain and use my ski poles as walking sticks to get back to the hotel.

Lefty I hurt dancing on a table in a gay bar in Birmingham while in full Rocky Horror costume. I was so drunk that I didn’t feel it, and only noticed how bad it was the following morning when I limped home from my friend’s flat.

L is for London

Hubs and I got engaged in London, X loves Big Ben, and what’s not to love about the West End (except maybe the ticket prices).

M is for Musical Theatre!

I LOVE musical theatre. It’s almost an obsession. I really don’t care how uncool you think it is either. I’ve got a pretty eclectic taste in music, from pop to metal, punk to classical, but my go to tunes are usually Broadway standards. I’ve only seen a handful of shows in the West End – Wicked, Dirty Rotten Scoundrels, Legally Blonde, Avenue Q and American Idiot – but I would so love to see more! My old job at the theatre in Birmingham meant I got to see a LOT of shows – my favourites were Spamalot, Never Forget (the Take That musical), 9 to 5, Rocky Horror and Priscilla Queen Of The Desert.

N is for Nails

I’m a prolific nail biter, but I’m trying really hard to stop. I’ve tried everything, but the only thing I’ve found that works is wearing dark nail varnish. Now, I’ve always been a sucker for black painted nails, it’s the teenage goth in me struggling to get out, and now that I’m not working I can wear it all the time! It always amazes me how quickly your nails grow once you stop biting them!

O is for Oopherectomy

Big word. It means having an ovary removed. I wrote about it a lot when I first started The Mum From Brum – but basically when I had my 12 week scan with X they discovered an enormous cyst on my left ovary, which had rendered it pointless, and potentially even dangerous to my health. I had the cyst, and the damaged ovary, removed when X was about 14 months old. It meant a week stay in hospital and a huge c-section type scar.

P is for Pop

I love fizzy pop. Especially Coke Zero. I’m trying to not drink it as much because as much as I love to drink it, my body HATES it. It’s a rare treat these days, whereas I could easily put away 6 cans in an afternoon before!

Q is for Quiet Time

As an introvert, my quiet time is sacrosanct. I go a bit mad without it.

R is for Relocation

We’ve moved to Northampton. I’ve spent most of my life in Birmingham so it’s been quite the shock to the system, but I love the area we live now, and I’ve met some interesting people!

S is for Swimming.

In that, I can’t. I hated lessons as a kid, I never enjoyed playing in water… I’m genuinely quite afraid of it. I’m begging Hubs to take X for swimming lessons because I don’t want him being scared of the water like me.

T is for Tired

It’s become a permanent state of being since I was pregnant with X. As my mother says, “My get up and go has got up and gone.”

U is for University Challenge.

No, I wasn’t on it, sadly. I’m not that clever. But I do like watching it on a Monday night. If I get a few answers right I’m happy. If there’s a popular music round or something on Shakespeare I actually stand a chance of getting at least 2 or 3!

V is for Very tired

Actually, I could really go for a nap right now…

W is for Wife

Hubs and I have been married for 3 and a bit years now 🙂

X is for… X!

X is my son, he’s just turned 3 and is currently a nightmare. Him starting nursery in the last few weeks has been perfectly timed as he’s suddenly developed one hell of an attitude.

Y is for Yawn…

Sorry, been up for a few hours… I’m just going to close my eyes for two minutes…

Z is for ZZZZzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz….

  1. Thanks for the tag, this is great. My favourite joke is the pirate one too!! Best.Joke.Ever. I’m also a social anxiety ridden introvert so I feel like this was meant to be lol.
