When we first starting looking at moving house to Northampton, I was surprised by the sheer amount of Woodland and park areas that were going to be nearby. Birmingham was great for parks, but actual woodland areas were a bit tricker to get to.
We’ve not had much chance to explore yet – winter isn’t the best time for a long walk to the woods with a buggy! But when Boolino and Maverick offered me the chance to review their new Woodland Hedgehugs Activity Book I thought it would be a great chance to get out there and really introduce X to nature!
The book is part of the Hedgehugs series – the story of two lovely little hedgehogs, Horace and Hattie who are best friends, but can’t hug because they’re just too spikey!
This book is filled with fun activities to help you and your child get the most out of your woodland trip – and it even includes some crafty ideas to do when you get home too.
It’s fair to say I’m not a particularly crafty mum, but we tried our hand at the apple Ladybird all the same (although I forgot the peanut butter, and it turns out strawberry jam doesn’t work *quite* as well… ha!)
We’ve lots more to do, and because X is only 3 I imagine these activities will keep us going for quite a few trips to the woods! There’s tree rubbings to do – did you know that the younger the tree the smoother the bark?! – and animal tracks to discover. A great treat for kids who are maybe a bit reluctant to just go for a walk in the woods and need something to investigate while they’re there!
