Last Week vs This Week

Where’s my son gone?! No, seriously? I had a wonderfully behaved, polite, little boy who charmed everyone he came in contact with. Where’s he gone? This morning we had a trip to Tesco that made me think someone had swapped him in the night. How can someone change so much overnight?! In fact, here’s 5 changes in the last week…

Last Week

Carefully holds my hand whenever we walk, which he does sensibly and calmly, unless we have to cross a road at which point he picks up the pace a bit.

This Week

Pincer grip on hand, while squeezing the skin between my thumb and finger between his fingers, and his nails somehow need cutting AGAIN. Pulls down on my hand with all of his weight, while trying to frog march his way around the shop, he has to touch EVERYTHING.

Last Week

Face washing with his flannel is a lovely way to start the calm down for bed. Helps us brush his teeth, and even lifts his bum off the bed for nappy changes.

This Week

You’d think we were trying to suffocate him with the flannel, even face wipes cause blood curdling screams. Tooth brushing is now a solo activity, but he will only suck the toothpaste instead of actually cleaning his teeth. Despite him now being quite interested in the potty, he really really doesn’t give a s*it about walking around with a nappy full of poo.

Last Week

“Nap time, Mummy. Time to go upstairs.”

This Week

“No. Not nap time yet. No. No Mummy. X not tired. No. Nooooooooo. NOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!” [insert tantrum here]

Last Week

We need to go to the shop – it’s about a 2 mile walk there and back, and I need to buy potatoes. After a little bit of persuading, he agrees to go in his buggy provided he can walk home.

This Week

“No buggy, Mummy!” lies down on the floor “No no no no no. X walk. Walk! No! Walk!! NO BUGGY!!” we walk to the shop and my arms fall off on the way home thanks to the potatoes.

Last Week

One or two bedtime stories, snuggled up together on his chair, followed by a lovely squeezy bedtime cuddle, and a night night kiss. He lies down and gently drifts off to sleep.

This Week

One million bedtime stories, he doesn’t sit still. I’m lucky to get a cuddle, and the kiss has been replaced by a headbutt. He changes his mind 5 times over where he would like his blanket, eventually decides and lies down. 5 minutes later he’s changed his mind again, and now he wants some medicine for his teething pain. 10 minutes later he wants a cup of milk, which he will have 2 sips of. Half an hour later and he wants both Mummy and Daddy to come and stand in his room. Mummy needs to rock him like a newborn and sing “Rock-a-Bye Baby”, apparently – not sure why Daddy has to be there for this. He finally lies down and goes to sleep, only to wake at 6am as the Gro Clock means nothing now.

And there was me thinking that the terrible twos had started a while ago… *sighs*
