I’m ashamed to admit that I barely know my neighbours beyond a cheery hello if we cross paths on our way in or way out. And considering our impending house move, I know getting to know our new neighbours will be far more of a struggle that it was in years gone by, but entirely essential! How well do you know your neighbours?
It’s not just about the social aspect either – how many of us these days have a neighbour we know well enough to give them a spare set of keys in case of an emergency? Do they even have a contact phone number for you?
How Safe Is Your Street?
CORGI, the company renowned for their safety skills are running a “How Safe Is Your Street” campaign, which is encouraging us all to get out and know our neighbours, not just for our own safety, but for our neighbours’ too.
From single mums to elderly or vulnerable people, there could easily be someone on your street struggling alone that would benefit from an occasional visit and the offer of a helping hand. By taking a few simple steps to get to know our neighbours, we can all help build a safer, happier community for everybody.
60% of people recently surveyed by CORGI HomePlan said they wish they knew their neighbours better and would like to be doing more in their community – so they’ve created a handy online hub filled with ideas on how to get involved. It includes great tips on keeping you and your family safe, as well as a really handy video from psychology professor Dr Sandi Mann on Breaking The Ice with your neighbours – something I think most of us are quite wary of if we’re honest!
As part of the campaign, CORGI have given us a Carbon Monoxide Alarm worth £40 to give away, to help you with your own home and family safety. If you’d like to be in with a chance to win, please comment below with your own top tip for getting to know your neighbours.
One winner will be picked at random on Monday 18th of April 2016 UK entrants only.
Disclaimer: CORGI have very kindly given us this Carbon Monoxide Alarm to give away in return for us writing this post.
